[Oct 29, 4:00 PM] Hari Chandana Ponnaluri: Hi Kristie!
[Oct 29, 4:00 PM] Skye H: Last but not least
[Oct 29, 4:00 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: Hi Kristie.....in answer to your ?...NO, most of my pins are NOT performing as well as I'd like them to.
[Oct 29, 4:00 PM] Hari Chandana Ponnaluri: Hi everyone!
[Oct 29, 4:01 PM] Flour de Liz: Me too, Debra!
[Oct 29, 4:01 PM] kristiehill: Hi!
[Oct 29, 4:01 PM] kristiehill: I'm here
[Oct 29, 4:01 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: I knew I wasn't alone.
[Oct 29, 4:01 PM] Skye H: Is it bad I don't use Pinterest as a user so it is hard for me to want to use it on the other end?
[Oct 29, 4:01 PM] kristiehill: So excited to talk Pinterest with you all.
[Oct 29, 4:02 PM] graceandvine: Hey Kristie! Thanks for wrapping up this final day for us :)
[Oct 29, 4:02 PM] Meggan Leal: Good afternoon!
[Oct 29, 4:02 PM] kristiehill: No, that make sense Skye. What don't you like about Pinterest as a user?
[Oct 29, 4:02 PM] kristiehill: Hi Meggan!
[Oct 29, 4:03 PM] kristiehill: Hi @hari
[Oct 29, 4:03 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: My monthly viewers # changes DRAMATICALLY on a daily basis...is that normal?
[Oct 29, 4:03 PM] Skye H: I just never got into it. When I tried it some of the links I'd "pin" from the home page I'd go back in to click on a recipe or an item I liked and the link led to a dead end
[Oct 29, 4:04 PM] Skye H: Such as the company that made x closed down
[Oct 29, 4:04 PM] kristiehill: Yes, normal Debra. As we'll talk about in a minute - I don't pay much attention to monthly viewers because it doesn't tell us much nor is it dependable.
[Oct 29, 4:04 PM] kristiehill: Skye - guess we need to work on flooding Pinterest with active sites like yours!
[Oct 29, 4:04 PM] Nina T: Dead links IS a pinterest problem...
[Oct 29, 4:05 PM] Lisa Kerhin: Hello!
[Oct 29, 4:05 PM] kristiehill: The blogging world actually has a really high turnover... so I can see how that is a big problem on Pinterest. Hopefully they'll continue to get rid of dead Pins.
[Oct 29, 4:05 PM] kristiehill: Hi Lisa! Happy to have you here.
[Oct 29, 4:06 PM] Skye H: Nina I wish there was a way for dead links to be cleaned up. a while back I was watching a show that someone had her links stolen by using her pictures and other links with her photos
[Oct 29, 4:06 PM] Skye H: So that makes me wonder is there a way to make sure no-one steals your photo content
[Oct 29, 4:12 PM] kristiehill: What do you see in your top pins?
[Oct 29, 4:12 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: someone else
[Oct 29, 4:12 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: directly from my site....it wasn't even a styled pin....just didrect from the photo
[Oct 29, 4:12 PM] kristiehill: That's awesome Debra. People are saving your content and it's performing well.
[Oct 29, 4:13 PM] VictoriaKabakian: it was me, i posted it :)
[Oct 29, 4:13 PM] kristiehill: sweet Victoria, your efforts paid off!
[Oct 29, 4:13 PM] VictoriaKabakian: wait no... it was someone else haha
[Oct 29, 4:13 PM] VictoriaKabakian: it's so confusing I saw my own name and then I had to scroll down and saw someone else's name :)
[Oct 29, 4:14 PM] kristiehill: With rich pins, your blog/name is attached but the Pinner's name will be at the bottom.
[Oct 29, 4:14 PM] VictoriaKabakian: I don't have rich pins enabled
[Oct 29, 4:14 PM] kristiehill: 🤷
[Oct 29, 4:15 PM] Megan Porta: Starting late, but HI Kristie!
[Oct 29, 4:15 PM] kristiehill: Hi Megan! Happy to have you.
[Oct 29, 4:15 PM] Susan: My top referral pin is just a /
[Oct 29, 4:15 PM] kristiehill: You must be ranking in a feed! We go over that in the lesson how to break down which post and search on Pinterest for your Pin.
[Oct 29, 4:16 PM] VictoriaKabakian: ok, I clicked on a whole bunch and they were ALL pins that other people pinned or repinned and they were kind of older styles than what I have been using more recently. Interesting...
[Oct 29, 4:16 PM] Flour de Liz: I have to pause so many times to write everything down! Thanks for all this amazing and helpful info!
[Oct 29, 4:16 PM] kristiehill: raise your hand if you have an ugly Pin as your top Pin?
[Oct 29, 4:17 PM] kristiehill: I'm working on a case study right now Victoria, and I am finding that common theme among most account! The top Pins are saved by other people.
[Oct 29, 4:17 PM] kristiehill: As for the Pin design style, it does take time for Pins to take off on Pinterest, so it makes sense that your older designs are the top ones. Don't give up on your new designs yet, they could take over!
[Oct 29, 4:18 PM] kristiehill: You're welcome Flour!
[Oct 29, 4:18 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: How long from when a new pin is pinned would it be before you'd see some decent traffic? (If you were going to)?
[Oct 29, 4:18 PM] Guest6615: Do you have any insight or thoughts of Pinterest saying they want fresh pins? All my top perfoming pins are from 3 years ago.
[Oct 29, 4:19 PM] Guest6615: all my "fresh" ones don't stick
[Oct 29, 4:19 PM] VictoriaKabakian: great insights, Kristie! Thanks!
[Oct 29, 4:19 PM] kristiehill: Several months. Depending on if it is seasonal content or not.
[Oct 29, 4:20 PM] kristiehill: Season (thanksiving dinner recipes) will take off faster than evergreen content. It could be 6 months before your Pins start to brin in power house traffic.
[Oct 29, 4:20 PM] Flour de Liz: When I add the secondary dimension of landing page, 8 or my top 10 pins are just the /
[Oct 29, 4:20 PM] kristiehill: uh oh... the landing page is / ?
[Oct 29, 4:20 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: Thank you.
[Oct 29, 4:21 PM] VictoriaKabakian: Soooo my pinterest traffic has dropped almost 20% month over month and I just can't figure out if it's because of the algorithm changes or something else. What would be the best way to figure that out?
[Oct 29, 4:21 PM] kristiehill: That means your home page Flour... you want to make sure to save your blog posts directly.
[Oct 29, 4:21 PM] Flour de Liz: no, the landing pages are all my recipes pages, but the referral path is all /
[Oct 29, 4:21 PM] kristiehill: So before you add a secondary dimension, you need to click on that / and open it up.
[Oct 29, 4:22 PM] kristiehill: Then you can add the secondary dimension.
[Oct 29, 4:22 PM] Flour de Liz: ohhhh, got it, thanks!
[Oct 29, 4:22 PM] Flour de Liz: so now all 10 have the referral path of /, but the landing pages are all still my various recipe pages
[Oct 29, 4:22 PM] Jordan: Should I delete poorly performing posts?
[Oct 29, 4:23 PM] Flour de Liz: ah, sorry, maybe I haven't watched far enough yet! I'll keep going!
[Oct 29, 4:24 PM] kristiehill: yes, the referral path is just / because it is coming from a feed. We do discuss in the video. Maybe rewind if you need to catch it again.
[Oct 29, 4:24 PM] kristiehill: Jordan - no don't delete poor Pins. Just move on.
[Oct 29, 4:25 PM] kristiehill: Victoria, for your traffic decrease - is it one Post or all? When you were at your high... was it spread out through multiple posts or one heavy lifter?
[Oct 29, 4:25 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: If you find pins that are no longer doing well and make new pins for the same thing....are those considered fresh?
[Oct 29, 4:25 PM] VictoriaKabakian: It's a whole bunch of posts. It is really the top pins collectively have all caused an overall drop
[Oct 29, 4:25 PM] kristiehill: Are you designing a new image Debra?
[Oct 29, 4:26 PM] VictoriaKabakian: And I use Tailwind and have been scheduling interval pins over months time but it may just be that one particular pin for each of those posts that really took off that is now dwindling?
[Oct 29, 4:26 PM] kristiehill: If you design new images for old posts, yes that is considered a Fresh Pin
[Oct 29, 4:27 PM] kristiehill: https://kristiehill/pinterest-dashboard
[Oct 29, 4:28 PM] Skye H: good info I will definitely have to rewatch
[Oct 29, 4:28 PM] kristiehill: Yes, it's one to watch slow and work with it!
[Oct 29, 4:28 PM] Jordan: Thank you! Have a wonderful day!
[Oct 29, 4:28 PM] kristiehill: Thanks for showing up live everyone.
[Oct 29, 4:28 PM] kristiehill: Best of wishes your Pinterest adventures.
[Oct 29, 4:28 PM] Lisa Kerhin: @Skye, so much to absorb, a rewatch is for sure
[Oct 29, 4:29 PM] kristiehill: Let me know if you have any analytics or Pinterest questions - happy to chat!
[Oct 29, 4:29 PM] Flour de Liz: I'm still only halfway through, taking it slow for sure, so much great information (and sorry for my repetitive questions - I went back and watched and see mine looks the same as yours!)
[Oct 29, 4:29 PM] kristiehill: No worries Flour! Thanks for being here.
[Oct 29, 4:29 PM] Susan: Thanks Kristie! I didn't know those stats were even in Analytics. I'll definitely add to my monthly review.
[Oct 29, 4:30 PM] kristiehill: Yes! Super happy you know where to look now Susan.
[Oct 29, 4:31 PM] VictoriaKabakian: I just signed up for your dashboard
[Oct 29, 4:31 PM] VictoriaKabakian: this was really eye opening!
[Oct 29, 4:31 PM] kristiehill: yay! The dashboard makes this process even easier.
[Oct 29, 4:32 PM] VictoriaKabakian: I am hoping this can help me understand a bit better about my drop in traffic. It could be less about the algorithm and more about pins that were viral for a hot second (all around the same time) really just starting to die down. ANd much of them are my pins that other people pinned! so it's less about my own control over pinning them which I guess is a whole other thing
[Oct 29, 4:32 PM] VictoriaKabakian: I should be less hard on myself and Pinterest algorithm, maybe? haha
[Oct 29, 4:32 PM] VictoriaKabakian: ok I didn't swear but it thinks I did...
[Oct 29, 4:32 PM] VictoriaKabakian: more difficult on myself let's say
[Oct 29, 4:34 PM] kristiehill: Good observation Victoria, you're right on (and haha about the ****) A lot of people freak out thinking they did something wrong, or they need to change but in many cases, there's not much control over it because other people saved your content, it was ranking, and now it's not. THe only thing you can do is keep saving content, create new images for those posts that are dropping and continue all the best practice things: descriptions, boards, etc
[Oct 29, 4:35 PM] kristiehill: baby just woke up from nap... BRB
[Oct 29, 4:35 PM] Flour de Liz: wow, yes, my top pin that isn't the / is definitely an ugly pin!
[Oct 29, 4:35 PM] kristiehill: haha, figures!
[Oct 29, 4:38 PM] Kristie Hill: I'm going to live for a minute in the FB group, anything you want me to cover?
[Oct 29, 4:48 PM] Flour de Liz: Thank you so much, Kristie! This was great!
[Oct 30, 6:09 AM] Wendy Faulkner: Thank you so much, there were loads of really useful tips.
