[Oct 29, 11:01 AM] Skye H: hello
[Oct 29, 11:01 AM] Meggan Leal: Good morning!!!
[Oct 29, 11:02 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: Hello! Super excited for this talk! I do some morning chat shows now and I love it!
[Oct 29, 11:02 AM] Meggan Leal: I'm so excited to try to do this!
[Oct 29, 11:02 AM] Erin Gierhart: Good morning!
[Oct 29, 11:03 AM] Gitta Grether-Sweeney: Good morning everyone!
[Oct 29, 11:03 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: I so want to break into new markets, but I don't know how to get in contact with producers? I really enjoy it!
[Oct 29, 11:04 AM] Omaily Lucas Mustiola: Hi Marie! :D
[Oct 29, 11:06 AM] TrueLivingFoodie: Hello!
[Oct 29, 11:07 AM] Skye H: I know this was prerecorded but most stations aren't adding extras now. Heck mine started having their anchors at home again, any tips on planting the seed so when they are ready to have you come in or get them to work with you from a remote feed?
[Oct 29, 11:09 AM] graceandvine: Morning everyone!
[Oct 29, 11:09 AM] Marie Fiebach: Hello all- I got locked out, but am so excited to be here with you now.
[Oct 29, 11:09 AM] Skye H: Morning madison
[Oct 29, 11:09 AM] graceandvine: Be sure to pop your questions for Marie in the chat :)
[Oct 29, 11:09 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: Hello!
[Oct 29, 11:10 AM] Tracy Stuckrath: Hello everyone!
[Oct 29, 11:10 AM] Skye H: Oh no Marie, gotta love tech
[Oct 29, 11:10 AM] Marie Fiebach: Ha! It's all good. :)
[Oct 29, 11:10 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: Marie- I keep reaching out to producers at different stations, but I never get an email back. Any tips to get in front of the right set of eyes? I am currently a biweekly guest on a morning show on NBC
[Oct 29, 11:11 AM] Skye H: I had asked this: I know this was prerecorded but most stations aren't adding extras now. Heck mine started having their anchors at home again, any tips on planting the seed so when they are ready to have you come in or get them to work with you from a remote feed?
[Oct 29, 11:11 AM] Marie Fiebach: Jessie- Try and get to someone who is already a guest on that station. Ask them to introduce you to the producers.
[Oct 29, 11:12 AM] Meggan Leal: Omg I need a green screen kitchen for my home! LOL
[Oct 29, 11:12 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: Marie, thank you! I am doing a lot of Skype segments at the moment, but I'm hoping to take this opportunity to beam into other markets
[Oct 29, 11:13 AM] Marie Fiebach: @ Skye- Try and make a home video with a timely theme like "Thanksgiving Recipes" and see if they will put it on . Or ask before you make the video.
[Oct 29, 11:13 AM] Skye H: Meggan I'd love a green screen kitchen to hide my mess
[Oct 29, 11:13 AM] Tracy Stuckrath: @Meggan here is the green screen I use https://amzn.to/3oBOVFS
[Oct 29, 11:13 AM] Marie Fiebach: @ Megggan- I know. I use my kitchen table on paint cans for taping. ;)
[Oct 29, 11:14 AM] Marie Fiebach: @ Jesse- Don't give up.
[Oct 29, 11:14 AM] TrueLivingFoodie: I've always have dreamed about cooking on television!
[Oct 29, 11:14 AM] Meggan Leal: Seriously, my biggest obstacle right now is that I live in a fixer upper and the kitchen isn't presentable at all. If I could green screen anything at all behind me, that would be MAGICAL
[Oct 29, 11:14 AM] Marie Fiebach: @TrueLivingFoodie- Where do you live?
[Oct 29, 11:14 AM] TrueLivingFoodie: Salt Lake City
[Oct 29, 11:15 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Meggan- You may be able to with a photography backdrop.
[Oct 29, 11:15 AM] TrueLivingFoodie: Your journey sounds fun!:)
[Oct 29, 11:15 AM] Marie Fiebach: @TrueLivingFoodie- That is a small enough market that you should have lots of possibilities and opportunities.
[Oct 29, 11:16 AM] TrueLivingFoodie: Nice! I'll reach out. I've been excited to hear your presentation.
[Oct 29, 11:16 AM] Meggan Leal: And I'm a vegan blogger.. one of the morning show anchors is vegan and in all the local vegan groups with me. He's bought cupcakes from me. Why have I never thought to ask him about this before?! So many aha moments right now. LOL
[Oct 29, 11:16 AM] Tracy Stuckrath: I could do a segment on how to change holiday recipes for family members/guests with different dietary needs
[Oct 29, 11:16 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Meggan-Yes!!!
[Oct 29, 11:17 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Tracy- Yes. Find an angle.
[Oct 29, 11:20 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: I love the email intro idea. I have several friends in Lifestyle, that have broken into larger markets. I've just never asked for an intro! I've been cold calling instead. So obvious!
[Oct 29, 11:21 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Jessie- A warm introduction is totally the way to go. The person introducing you does not have to cook. Your lifestyle contacts are gold!
[Oct 29, 11:21 AM] TrueLivingFoodie: I love the detailed email tips. Super helpful!
[Oct 29, 11:22 AM] Marie Fiebach: @TrueLivingFoodie- Yes- The easiest way is to write the email yourself and have the contact cut and paste it in an introduction to the producer.
[Oct 29, 11:22 AM] Flour de Liz: This is great, Marie, thank you! Do you bring all your own ingredients to the station? Do you measure it out in advance and bring only the pre-measured amounts?
[Oct 29, 11:23 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Flour- Yes- I bring everything to the studio. I teach my private coaching clients how to write a process and that includes pre-measuring everything. I even pre-cook most of the food.
[Oct 29, 11:23 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: Pay to Play; brands will sometimes ask for a sponsored segment on a station, and have you come on to rep them. It's another angle I've had happen
[Oct 29, 11:24 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Jessie- I love that you have been able to work with brands. Have the stations asked for a cut of the revenue? Mine have.
[Oct 29, 11:25 AM] Sherri Sage Hall: Hi Marie! I am a gluten-free, vegan food blogger...do you think my recipes would be too specialized for local TV? My local station did feature a vegan recipe for pie using tofu last year as part of a story for a vegan festival that was happening that week. What do you think?
[Oct 29, 11:25 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: Yes! But, it's usually a much smaller fee paid separately to the station. I negotiate that the station fee isn't coming out of my fee. Granted I've only done it this way twice, but it's a great gig!
[Oct 29, 11:25 AM] Meggan Leal: I'm so stressed just hearing that.
[Oct 29, 11:26 AM] Flour de Liz: Thank you, Marie!!
[Oct 29, 11:26 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Sherri- With specialty diets you want to find a recipe with "normal" ingredients and very approachable. You want a recipe that anyone will want to make. Vegan and non-vegan alike.
[Oct 29, 11:27 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Jessie- This is still good!
[Oct 29, 11:27 AM] Sherri Sage Hall: Thanks Marie! That makes sense :)
[Oct 29, 11:28 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: such a good point about 'speciality' ingredients
[Oct 29, 11:29 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Jessie- Yes. You want to be as approachable as possible.
[Oct 29, 11:31 AM] Nicky Omohundro: Thank you so much for all this information.
[Oct 29, 11:31 AM] Marie Fiebach: Would you all like to ask more questions on Facebook Live after the presentation?
[Oct 29, 11:32 AM] Marie Fiebach: You are welcome.
[Oct 29, 11:33 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: This is just a wealth of info. Thank you so much!
[Oct 29, 11:33 AM] Marie Fiebach: @Jessie- I'm so happy to help!
[Oct 29, 11:34 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: Do you have any recs for a mic for Skype/zoom segments? Sound quality is a big issue for me
[Oct 29, 11:34 AM] Marie Fiebach: @JEssie- yes- send me an email and I can send you some links. Marie@mariefiebach.com
[Oct 29, 11:35 AM] Jessie_STTHBaby: amazing! Thank you so much!!
[Oct 29, 11:35 AM] Marie Fiebach: You are welcome.
[Oct 29, 11:35 AM] TrueLivingFoodie: Thank you!! Great presentation!
[Oct 29, 11:36 AM] Travis Tharp: This info is gold!
[Oct 29, 11:36 AM] Marie Fiebach: Thank you. I am so happy to share.
[Oct 29, 11:36 AM] Marie Fiebach: @madison- to go live on Facebook, do I go through zoom?
[Oct 29, 11:36 AM] Meggan Leal: Oh! Does the studio do any hair/makeup for you? I'm guessing not and that you need to do it yourself?
[Oct 29, 11:37 AM] Marie Fiebach: @meggan- I do all my own hair and makeup. Wear 20-30%more than you would in public.
[Oct 29, 11:37 AM] meatless_foodie: Do the stations give guidance on what colors to wear?
[Oct 29, 11:38 AM] Travis Tharp: What about make up for males?
[Oct 29, 11:38 AM] Skye H: @marie can you share the microphone links on the facebook group as many of us would love it
[Oct 29, 11:38 AM] Marie Fiebach: @meatless-foodie- They don't , but I do ;) Solid colors work best. Patterns can be wonky on camera. Look at what the anchors are wearing. Mimic the look as much as possible in your own style.
[Oct 29, 11:38 AM] meatless_foodie: Great! Thanks so much. This was amazing information.
[Oct 29, 11:38 AM] Meggan Leal: And no green, right? Haha
[Oct 29, 11:39 AM] meatless_foodie: haha, Meggan
[Oct 29, 11:39 AM] Marie Fiebach: Yes. I will jump over to facebook group and get those to you in just a bit.
[Oct 29, 11:39 AM] Skye H: No stripes some wear stripes on my local network and they're terrible
[Oct 29, 11:39 AM] Marie Fiebach: @meggan- It depends. At my station there is not a green screen for the cooking set. (there was on pbs)
[Oct 29, 11:40 AM] Marie Fiebach: 1st segment I would avoid green.
[Oct 29, 11:40 AM] Marie Fiebach: @skye- stripes and small polka dots are the worst. You get dizzy.
[Oct 29, 11:41 AM] Skye H: Yes dizzy one of the reporters wore stripes or polka dots recently and I was wondering what she was thinking
[Oct 29, 11:43 AM] Marie Fiebach: @skye- It happens. My dear friend wore a bright yellow and her mom said she looked like a hi-lighter.
[Oct 29, 11:57 AM] Marie Fiebach: I am headed to the facebook group. I will go live there and post mic links and talk about a few more things for you.
[Oct 29, 11:57 AM] Skye H: Thanks Marie
