[Oct 28, 1:00 PM] graceandvine: Welcome everyone!! Who’s excited about learning about video?!
[Oct 28, 1:00 PM] Xristianna Papalexopoulou: So excited for this one!
[Oct 28, 1:01 PM] Brita Britnell: Hi everyone! I’ll be in the chat for the next hour so ask any questions that you might have!
[Oct 28, 1:01 PM] Gitta Grether-Sweeney: I am so excited! I need this!
[Oct 28, 1:01 PM] Skye H: This looks like a good one. Basic and a Beginners Guide just up my alley
[Oct 28, 1:02 PM] Teresa Clendenin Sklenicka: This is just what I need. I’ve put off doing video because I feel so lost with how to do it.
[Oct 28, 1:03 PM] Siri: what i need to push myself to do ore video π
[Oct 28, 1:03 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: Hi…..newbie on the video here.
[Oct 28, 1:03 PM] LoriMurphy: have been waiting for this one!
[Oct 28, 1:03 PM] Siri: love your videos for ambitious kithcen π
[Oct 28, 1:04 PM] Skye H: Brita thank you for talking about starting out. As a newbie it’s been overwhelming feeling WAY behind the curve
[Oct 28, 1:04 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: @lorimurphy….same.
[Oct 28, 1:04 PM] Brita Britnell: thank you! She’s great to work with π
[Oct 28, 1:04 PM] Brita Britnell: Growing a blog is so daunting but if I can do it, YOU definitely can do it!
[Oct 28, 1:06 PM] Siri: by far the best video quality on this summit lol, you rock
[Oct 28, 1:07 PM] graceandvine: Nifty fifty!
[Oct 28, 1:08 PM] Brita Britnell: love that nifty fifty!
[Oct 28, 1:08 PM] Mireille Roc: ive done about a dozen videos and use canon 80d but a lot recommend using 2 cameras to get different angles. I have tried that but the lighting meter is totally different on canon rebel. Do you use more than 1 camera?
[Oct 28, 1:09 PM] graceandvine: Brita your house is sooo beautiful!
[Oct 28, 1:09 PM] Siri: which angle you recommend for starters?
[Oct 28, 1:09 PM] Mireille Roc: i just got that clamp for doing IG reels – it is great!
[Oct 28, 1:09 PM] Brita Britnell: thanks Madison!
[Oct 28, 1:10 PM] Brita Britnell: here’s an affiliate link for that counter top clamp “tripod”. I love it so much: https://amzn.to/2HLBJxF
[Oct 28, 1:11 PM] Brita Britnell: Angles: I recommend focusing on top down shots bc they’re easy and simple and a great view for the audience. When you’re able, start throwing in some 45 degree angle shots
[Oct 28, 1:11 PM] Skye H: Any recommendations for a tripod that stand on the floor?
[Oct 28, 1:12 PM] Taleen: So excited for this one! I literally posted my first video on my blog today π
[Oct 28, 1:12 PM] Skye H: Congrats Taleen
[Oct 28, 1:12 PM] LoriMurphy: love this little countertop tripod!
[Oct 28, 1:12 PM] Taleen: @Skye thank you! Definitely still have a lot to learn
[Oct 28, 1:13 PM] Brita Britnell: Yay Taleen! Link so I can see!
[Oct 28, 1:13 PM] Amy Katz: I may need to get that clamp thing!
[Oct 28, 1:13 PM] Brita Britnell: tripods: this is the first one i used for a very long time and loved it: https://amzn.to/3kGfzen HAVE SINCE upgraded to this tripod and it’s a decent bit sturdier: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1010690-REG/manfrotto_mt190xpro3_190xpro3_pro_aluminum_tripod.html
[Oct 28, 1:13 PM] Taleen: https://justastasty.com/easy-snickerdoodle-cookies/
[Oct 28, 1:14 PM] Brita Britnell: here is the c stand that I use: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/850444-REG/Impact_ls_ct40mbk_Turtle_Base_C_Stand_Kit.html
[Oct 28, 1:14 PM] Taleen: I used iMovie for now but definitely think I need to invest in Premiere Pro, iMovie can be so glitchy and frustrating..
[Oct 28, 1:15 PM] Brita Britnell: imovie is such a great place to start but definitely recommend learning premiere when you can!
[Oct 28, 1:16 PM] Mireille Roc: i got premiere pro when I ran into problems with imoveie but it took me about 6 months to finally sit down and learn it. I found it had a steep learning curve but it really is a more powerful editing tool
[Oct 28, 1:17 PM] Skye H: Thanks I will check those out. Any tripod recommendations that hold iPhones?
[Oct 28, 1:18 PM] Brita Britnell: you can get a cheap attachment for any tripod that will let you attach your phone to it
[Oct 28, 1:18 PM] Skye H: okay I will continue to look, thanks amazon is so hard as most of the reviews say they’re cheap plastic
[Oct 28, 1:19 PM] Brita Britnell: the little attachments really are kind of cheap plastic but the one I have was a few dollars and have lasted quiet a few years
[Oct 28, 1:20 PM] Skye H: Some the reviews were scary like it just suddenly broke and my phone went flying to the floor and cracked the screen
[Oct 28, 1:22 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: I’m a couple minutes behind, so maybe you get to this….but what if you don’t get enough consistent natural light. Are you going to talk about artificial lighting for videos?
[Oct 28, 1:24 PM] Brita Britnell: i don’t talk about artificial light in this video. I live in portland which means lots of dark days and inconsistent light but I’ve gotten really good at working with it. BUT, I know some poeple that make great videos with artificial light. shoot me an email and I can give you their recommendations for artificial lights [email protected]
[Oct 28, 1:25 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: thanks…I’ll try with the natural light.
[Oct 28, 1:25 PM] graceandvine: Seriously your videos are amazing Brita!
[Oct 28, 1:26 PM] Mireille Roc: i use both cuz windows arent very big – so its natural light on one side and artificial on the other. not sure if that is what is supposed to be done but it works for me
[Oct 28, 1:26 PM] Brita Britnell: THANKS! 😊
[Oct 28, 1:26 PM] Mireille Roc: my quality is no comparison though to yours
[Oct 28, 1:26 PM] Brita Britnell: I’ve seen a lot of people do that, Mireille. I like that because you still get that pretty natural light but the artificial light adds a bit in so it’s not too dark on dark days or in dark rooms
[Oct 28, 1:27 PM] Mireille Roc: your hero shots are AMAZING
[Oct 28, 1:27 PM] Gitta Grether-Sweeney: @Brita-your hero shots are beautiful! Love your videos!
[Oct 28, 1:28 PM] Brita Britnell: thank you! I have too much fun with the hero shots )and always spend too long on them lol)
[Oct 28, 1:29 PM] Amy Katz: This presentation is making me hungry.
[Oct 28, 1:30 PM] Mireille Roc: ive tried the movement but even on auto focus my hero doesn’t stay in focus
[Oct 28, 1:30 PM] Mireille Roc: do you have any suggestions for this
[Oct 28, 1:31 PM] Brita Britnell: I only ever do those movement shots where I can set the focus in one spot and then I stay anchored on that spot the whole time and then kind of just rotate around the food
[Oct 28, 1:31 PM] Brita Britnell: i also apply the “warp stabilizer” affect in editing which helps a LOT
[Oct 28, 1:31 PM] Mireille Roc: ok – i was lifting from the plate up – i will try your way thanks so much
[Oct 28, 1:32 PM] Brita Britnell: ps- OUR COURSE IS LIVE NOW! https://foodvideoacademy.teachable.com/
[Oct 28, 1:32 PM] Brita Britnell: you can use code FOODBLOGGER to get 20% off!
[Oct 28, 1:32 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: Super helpful….though I am still feeling intimidated to get started.
[Oct 28, 1:33 PM] Natalia Ilina: Thank you so much!
[Oct 28, 1:33 PM] Brita Britnell: we also have a free video that shows you a FULL walk through of how we film a tasty style video. A lot of people found this helpful to watch the whole process. you can get that free video here: https://www.foodvideoacademy.com/
[Oct 28, 1:33 PM] Gitta Grether-Sweeney: Thank you! This was helpful!
[Oct 28, 1:33 PM] Brita Britnell: Debra: what do you need to get started? Would would make you feel prepared? I want to help you!
[Oct 28, 1:34 PM] Debra Rosenblatt Klein: Good question….I guess I just have to jump in!
[Oct 28, 1:34 PM] Natalia Ilina: Hero shots are awesome!
[Oct 28, 1:34 PM] Xristianna Papalexopoulou: Thank you @Brita! oved every second of your presentation. Looking forward to experimenting with video and hero shots π
[Oct 28, 1:34 PM] Brita Britnell: yes do it! Jump in. I spent a whole day filming my first video and it was terrible. But it’s how you learn and you’ll pick it up quicker than you think
[Oct 28, 1:34 PM] Xristianna Papalexopoulou: *Loved
[Oct 28, 1:34 PM] Taleen: The quality of your videos is amazing! So crisp, bright, and beautiful. Not sure why mine doesn’t look like that, I wonder if it’s my (artificial) light?
[Oct 28, 1:35 PM] Brita Britnell: yay thanks Xristianna!
[Oct 28, 1:35 PM] Siri: wow lovely hero shots there!
[Oct 28, 1:35 PM] Hari Chandana Ponnaluri: It was super helpful! Thanks a ton, Brita! π
[Oct 28, 1:35 PM] Brita Britnell: Taleen- it could be? Going to watch your video in a minute. I experimented with SO many artificial lights and jsut didn’t find anything I liked except a professional setup that would cost about $25k. So I make natural work for me and really love it not
[Oct 28, 1:36 PM] Brita Britnell: thanks, Hari!
[Oct 28, 1:38 PM] Siri: Great presentation Brita! loved it totally
[Oct 28, 1:38 PM] staceybrugeman: Thank you for doing this! I’m way late due to eLearners but wanted to say so. Much appreciated.
[Oct 28, 1:38 PM] Guest3546: I don’t see a spot for the discount code on the registration page. Where do you enter it?
[Oct 28, 1:39 PM] Kara Myers: Hi Brita, I came in late so I’m still watching (about 19 minutes in) so I apologize if you already addressed it in the presentation. I feel like my lighting slightly adjusts in my videos where I have to work with it in editing. It’s particularly when working with bright white ingredients or really dark ingredients. Is this something I’m missing in my camera settings for video?
[Oct 28, 1:40 PM] Kara Myers: I should say it’s specifically when pulling them in and out or switching ingredients.
[Oct 28, 1:41 PM] staceybrugeman: Can you please link the countertop clamp tripod that you recommend?
[Oct 28, 1:41 PM] Guest9272: Hi Brita, do you use the same format for different platforms, or convert your video to the appropriate sizes. Will that be covered in your training too? Thank you!
[Oct 28, 1:41 PM] Diana: What camera are these shot with please?
[Oct 28, 1:41 PM] Brita Britnell: right below the logo is a button to click to add the coupon code!
[Oct 28, 1:41 PM] David Salvatore: THANK YOU
[Oct 28, 1:42 PM] Taryn Solie: Brita have you used the Jumprope app at all? Iβve been testing it out making video (the first videos Iβve done) and Iβm wondering if you have thoughts on it – pros, cons, good for beginners or not, etc.
[Oct 28, 1:42 PM] Guest3546: thank you Brita! I’m signing up!
[Oct 28, 1:43 PM] Brita Britnell: Kara- that can be tricky! For bright white ingredients, make sure to set the settings before starting to record WITH those foods in mind. For example, I’ll put a little bowl of sour cream into the bigger bowl so that I can set the focus on that white ingredient. If you’re then going to pour a much darker ingredient in, I’d move to a different angle and readjust the camera settings. Its tedious at first but you get the hang of it
[Oct 28, 1:44 PM] Brita Britnell: here’s the countertop tripod: https://amzn.to/31Nddmw
[Oct 28, 1:44 PM] staceybrugeman: Thank you!
[Oct 28, 1:45 PM] Kara Myers: Gotcha thank you!
[Oct 28, 1:45 PM] Brita Britnell: I have been using the jumprope app a lot lately BUT only to slice up my existing videos for google stories and pinterest stories etc. I think it’s great even for filming within the app. At the end of the day, people want to see video and the quality doesn’t matter as much if you’re genuinely being useful to your audience
[Oct 28, 1:45 PM] Diana: What camera are these shot with please? and does it have autofocus? I have canon 5d iii, and it doesn’t have autofocus which makes it tricky to focus on hero shots in motion.
[Oct 28, 1:46 PM] Brita Britnell: the majority of these shots were taken with a canon 6d mark ii. I love it so much! it does have auto focus and a flip screen (which is a big reason I liked it!)
[Oct 28, 1:46 PM] Taleen: Thank you for this, it was super helpful!
[Oct 28, 1:46 PM] Skye H: Oh I love the idea of a flip screen
[Oct 28, 1:47 PM] Diana: Ok so autofocus is really needed! I need a new camera π Thank you!
[Oct 28, 1:47 PM] Kara Myers: One more quick question… how do you handle steam going up towards your lenses? Do you go over that in the food video academy?
[Oct 28, 1:48 PM] Taryn Solie: Thanks Brita. Yes, I donβt tend to shoot in Jumprope (though do on my phone), but Iβve been leaning toward it just because itβs such a low bar for entry.
[Oct 28, 1:49 PM] Brita Britnell: the canon 6d mark ii is kind of middle line but I really love it so much. I’m going to start experimenting soon with mirrorless just to give it a try
[Oct 28, 1:49 PM] Diana: Sounds good thanks
[Oct 28, 1:50 PM] Brita Britnell: for steam: I use this $12 fan https://amzn.to/37O3Yq7 it works WONDERS! i don’t have a lesson on it but now I’m totally going to add one bc i have a few other tricks as well besides the fan
[Oct 28, 1:50 PM] Diana: You mentioned that you offer video for clients (other bloggers), is there a link where we can check out the service?
[Oct 28, 1:51 PM] Brita Britnell: I haven’t taken on a new client in years as I’m in the process of DROPPING clients to focus more on my own blog. I have lots of great recommendations though! Email me and I’ll send you some rec [email protected]
[Oct 28, 1:53 PM] Diana: Ok I’ll email you! One last question, does your course teach video in natural or artificial light? I only use artificial light.
[Oct 28, 1:55 PM] Brita Britnell: we both only use artificial light but most of the course is geared towards editing, getting different kinds of shots, camera settings etc and not a ton matters which kind of light you use
[Oct 28, 1:55 PM] Brita Britnell: I meant we only use NATURAL LIGHT!!
[Oct 28, 1:55 PM] Brita Britnell: you can see a full list of all the lessons in the course on the source homepage if you scroll down!
[Oct 28, 1:56 PM] Diana: Ok thank you!
[Oct 28, 2:03 PM] Flour de Liz: Hi! Not sure if anyone is left on this presentation, but just getting started for the day! Looking forward to learning more about video!
[Oct 28, 7:03 PM] Kiran: Just catching up now (Australian time zone), and loving this session.
[Oct 28, 10:20 PM] Kat: Hey Brita, watching from Oz too!! Thanks so much for your great tips and insights! Just wondering if you could please link that clamp style phone holder thingo? I had a scroll and couldn’t seem to see it in the chat π
[Oct 29, 12:33 AM] Shilpi Karner: Watching from Oz too!!! So thankful for this presentation!! we are newbies and have been considering vids but have no clue how to go about it lol!!
[Oct 29, 12:34 AM] Shilpi Karner: yup!! a beginner right here!!
[Oct 29, 12:35 AM] Shilpi Karner: i have a 6d and the 50mm lens! so thats a good start
[Oct 29, 12:35 AM] Shilpi Karner: waiting for my 100mm to come in
[Oct 29, 1:12 AM] Shilpi Karner: loved the presenation! super helpful
